Hillcrest, CA

Whole Home Remodel

Hillcrest is known for its diverse population, walkable downtown strip, buzzing brunch spots, and the classic look of the homes within the quant neighborhoods.

As a picturesque example of the old school charm, this fully remodeled home is in the process of becoming historically designated. Although not there yet, the homeowner and the team put lots of thought into integrating the classic architectural style back into the design that the home has proudly featured since 1929.

This charming Hillcrest home remodel kept its historical flare while undergoing a master bathroom ensuite addition, remodeling throughout the house and exterior courtyards, paint throughout and refinishing of the kitchen. The courtyard hosts plenty of seating for entertainment including a custom concrete formed bench with a hand painted tile surround.

Notable Project Highlights

  • Gorgeous hand painted tile surround on the bench in the backyard sitting area and matched with the backsplash on the outdoor cabinetry.
  • Primary suite addition included a freestanding tub with marble wainscoting on all walls and shower with a custom made vanity and quartz countertop.
  • We added a laundry room to the garage that is fully equipped with a utility sink and cabinets so the homeowner would have ample space and storage in this area, instead of just a stacked washer and dryer up against the wall like she had existing. We decided to match her existing kitchen marble hexagon backsplash in this area to tie these spaces in together.
  • The homeowner loved her existing kitchen, but wanted more contrast between the upper and lower cabinets so we painted the lower cabinets in a darker blue color and installed custom stained wood plank flooring to match her existing throughout the rest of the house.
  • We wanted to keep the 1920’s style of this home with the fireplace, so we had custom Batchelder tiles in various green and blue shades made for the surround and hearth, which tied into the paint color of the custom bookcase in the living room.
  • We constructed a new powder bathroom in the space that was once a hallway to the existing primary bathroom that includes a prefab vanity base with a custom marble countertop, curved backsplash and wall-mounted faucet, and a hand painted undermount sink.
